FAQ : Frequently Asked Questions

Can acupuncture help with ............?

This is one of our most frequently asked questions, and the answer is "most likely yes."  Acupuncture comes from a time tested medical tradition that has been keeping people well for literally thousands of years.  We find this brings about a lot of improvement to people's difficult health issues and our patients report feeling great along the way with less stress and an increased sense of wellbeing.  The techniques we use are non-invasive and can effectively treat symptoms as well as adjusting inner imbalances to resolve the problem at its source.  Oriental medicine honors the individual and our treatments are tailored to your life.  We invite you to see for yourself what this medicine has to offer.

Does acupuncture hurt?

The reference many people have for needles is that of the hypodermic kind used to give injections.  These are very large and hollow compared to an acupuncture needle which is a tiny, sterile filament.  You can actually thread three or more acupuncture needles through the tip of an injection needle they are so small.

When the needles are gently tapped in, there may be a very quick feeling not too different from an insect bite, but mostly they are not even felt once they are in.  Acupuncture is a relaxing process and patients often fall asleep on the table with their needles in.

How many treatments will I need?

Most conditions require 4 to 6 treatments to see the desired results.  Depending on the individual, the condition and how long the problem has been going on, this can vary greatly, requiring some degree of periodic treatment over time..

I've had acupuncture once or twice and it didn't work. Why should I try it again?

Just as we often get a second opinion in the world of M.D.s and conventional medicine, the same can be true with Traditional Chinese Medicine.  Oriental medicine is a very broad field and practitioner specialty, approach, temperament and skill all vary.  We are not your average acupuncturists and feel we have unique gifts to offer our community.  We encourage you to learn more about our practice, call and take advantage of our free consultation and decide whether we seem like a good fit for the health support team you're looking for.

I really don't like needles. Can you help me without using needles?

Chinese medicine offers a variety of techniques, of which acupuncture is only one.  Often the correct herbal formula can be very effective in addressing health concerns.  We also use techniques like Quantum Healing Hypnosis, and Shonishin (Japanese pediatric care) which do not involve needles. Also see the section below, "Does acupuncture hurt?" for more info about acupuncture needles. (They're tiny!!)
